Today there is a Nintendo Direct at 3 pm PT. I’m excited to see what will be revealed, and Sakurai has already stated that it will be “worth the wait” and that there will be “all kinds of info.” For his Miiverse post, see here. It is also going to have a rough release window as opposed to a hard release date. As long as it is 2014, I think most fans will be satisfied.
So, what can we expect? My guess is this: we will find out key features regarding the game, such as online capabilities (ie – how it works, voice chat, what’s to be expected), different game modes, and possibly another character reveal. I also think the “rough release window” will be Q4, closer to Christmas. That makes sense to me, though I would rather have it this summer; Nintendo is making a push for hardware sales in May with Mariokart. They can fill out the space between with games such as Bayonetta 2 and X. Once Christmas starts to roll around, and possibly even early November, I believe they’re going to do another push for hardware sales before the end of the year. We’ll see what Nintendo has to say in the Direct today.

I think your predictions will be pretty spot on, though I would add that I’m expecting something about connectivity between the 3DS and Wii U versions.
And while I am also hoping for a summer release, it seems that a date closer to Christmas is much more likely.

Jessica, if they announced connectivity between the two systems, that would be more than enough for me. If they reveal cross-play, I think it will intrigue many gamers who are hating on Nintendo right now, and it would give more of a reason to own both versions (play on the go or play on the couch). But, I would imagine something that big being revealed at E3 instead of a Direct.
