Smash Bros. for Wii U & 3DS

Smash Bros. 4

In case you were living under a rock yesterday (it’s ok, I do that all the time), Nintendo had a Smash Bros. specific Direct with a lot of new information regarding the latest game in the franchise. For more information regarding the title, click here and have a good look around. For a quick run down of what we learned yesterday, see below:

  1. The 3DS version will release Summer 2014, while the Wii U version will release Winter 2014
  2. Both will feature online play (hopefully, and expectedly, much improved from Brawl)
  3. Two game modes with online play – For Fun (casual gaming) and For Glory (competitive play, with Final Destination the only stage accessible, no items, and 1 vs 1)
  4. Tons of new Pokemon (they’re everywhere!), as well as new/veteran playable characters revealed
  5. New assist trophies revealed
  6. Bosses on various stages that will attack anyone still alive
  7. Smash Run mode exclusive to 3DS version
  8. Both games will run at 60 fps, with the 3DS running in stereoscopic 3D
  9. Custom Move Set (offline only)
  10. No characters can “switch” within a battle (ie – Samus and Zero Suit Samus are separate characters)

Regardless of my frustration with Nintendo (see my previous couple of posts), I am still excited for this game, and I know I will be purchasing it for my Wii U. I’m still debating on the 3DS version, but will most likely not buy it for the handheld system. Hopefully we will see some more information regarding this game between now and E3.
