For those who enjoy keeping up with the goings-on with Nintendo (ie -sales, units moved, hardware performance, etc.), the latest Nintendo briefing was released earlier this week. There are four pages to sift through, so I suggest reading the full briefing for every detail. Here are a couple notable mentions.
New 3DS XL Initial Sales are Double that of the 3DS XL
It appears that Nintendo’s aggressive marketing strategy for the New 3DS XL for the West has paid off. With well done commercials for both the hardware and the “launch title” in Majora’s Mask 3D, sales have been very nice thus far. It’s also worth noting that Majora’s Mask 3D has done exceptionally well, with initial sales doubling over the last Zelda title, A Link Between Worlds.
Wii U Sales Were Up Year-on-Year, but Down from Earlier This Year
The Wii U did fairly well over the holiday season, though it didn’t perform as well as earlier this year. Mario Kart 8 and the great Club Nintendo “free game” promotion were most likely the reasons for these sales. It is still good to see that both hardware and software for the home console were up over last year.
Wii U 2015 Games Announced, with More Announcements to Come
In addition to reiterating the aggressive focus on giving value to the GamePad, Iwata stated there is “more to announce,” in regard to Wii U software for the year. This is good news; having more games for the console is always a welcome thing. We will still have to wait for specific dates on many of the titles pictured above.
