Satoru Iwata and the president of DeNA, Isao Moriyasu, gave a presentation this morning with some interesting announcements. Of course, most will be speaking about the new Nintendo console that is in development, titled “NX,” and when it might possibly release. The more interesting news, however, was the business and capital alliance with DeNA and the “renewed” vision on smartphone applications and games.
Iwata reiterated that Nintendo’s IP will remain on “dedicated video game systems,” but the usage of mobile apps and possible smartphone games are not out of the question. In fact, they plan to use the two methods to point mobile gamers to Nintendo’s dedicated video game systems. Iwata affirmed Nintendo’s dedication to creating hardware by announcing the aforementioned “NX.” In addition to this news, he stated the alliance with DeNA would lead to the new membership service replacing Club Nintendo.
